Bitmap

A bitmap, also known as a raster graphic, is an image composed of a grid of pixels, each pixel representing a single color or shade. Unlike vector graphics, which use mathematical formulas to define shapes and lines, bitmaps are resolution-dependent and can lose quality when scaled up. This loss of quality occurs because enlarging a bitmap stretches the existing pixels, making individual pixels more visible and resulting in a jagged or blurry appearance. Common bitmap formats include JPEG, PNG, and GIF, each offering different levels of compression and support for transparency.
